> Note on the take home assignment: I’m working with a company who pay $500 for candidates to work on a take-home task. No one has declined to do the task. It has a deadline. The process was smooth. You will get a lot of push back if you consider a unpaid task especially for your own product. It will often be seen as free spec work.

Love this. We did it at one of my previous companies, and it was honestly so well received by candidates. It's such a nice thing for candidates to know they're not wasting their time doing free work, and gets the relationship off to such a great start.

I fully agree on the part on headhunting. I think the best way to hire the best and the most motivated is to look for one as causally as possible, rather than to advertise for candidates. I don’t trust HRs and neither do I see anyone but the top level people doing the most accurate hiring. For all you know, HRs etc may be hiring their own kind.
